She ran a nursing home for many years in Genoa City, Wisconsin, and later in life worked at the Platteville Walmart for many years where she made many close friends. Throughout her life she owned a bar called Shorty's Tap, a nickname given to her by her father. ![]() She fed all the stray cats in the neighborhood and even two woodchucks who had taken up residence at her home. Diane loved animals and loved to adopt the “unadoptable” older dogs at rescue shelters. She was born December 19, 1946, in Illinois to Derrill and Dorothy (Gallagher) Johnston. She loved making and giving away chocolate Easter eggs filled with candy and at Christmastime: pecan turtles, peanut brittle, peanut clusters, fudge, and divinity. Geraldine enjoyed visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, fishing, gambling, watching television, and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. She retired in 1996 to care for her husband who suffered from COPD. She was co-owner and bookkeeper of the County Seedman, Inc., located in Platteville for 20 years. On May 10, 1966, Geraldine and Richard adopted identical blue-eyed twin girls transforming their house into a family home. Swart at the First English Lutheran Church in Platteville. She was born on January 5, 1934, in Platteville, the daughter of Walter and Phyllis (Tracy) Goke. Geraldine Mae Swart, age 88, of Platteville, passed away peacefully, on Monday, October 17, 2022, at Lafayette Manor in Darlington, WI.
